Red Fort

The Red Fort was the residence of the Mughal emperor for nearly 200 years, until 1857. It is located in the center of Delhi and houses a number of museums. In addition to accommodating the emperors and their households, it was the ceremonial and political center of Mughal government and the setting for events critically impacting the region. Agra Fort is the only fort in India where the early Mughal emperors lived. The Fort is built on an irregular semicircle plan along the river. The entry pathways are in a zig zag as this would be very confusing when elephants were used to attack and they would crash into the wall.
