The Monte Verde Reserve is one of the most outstanding wildlife sanctuaries. It includes eight distinct ecological zones protecting 400 species of birds and over 100 species of mammals. As it was still the dry season we saw very few birds or animals, but the plants are lush and beautiful. We did however get to view a pair of Resplendent Quetzals. They are very rare, haven't been seen there for 10 years and the naturalist were unaware they were nesting until we saw them. This was quite an event.
